In 2018, Anthony Joshua had another successful year in boxing, defeating the likes of Joseph Parker and Alexander Povetkin to stretch his unbeaten record to 22 – 0.

But his inability to forge fights with Wilder and Fury raises the question if he still can be called the number one heavyweight.

Can Tyson Fury lay claim to being the best heavyweight in the division?

Well, Fury has demonstrated his unorthodox style and skill against the likes of Klitschko and Wilder with an unbeaten record. Fury has regained his name amongst the elite heavyweights in the division. And Joshua must overcome a reinvigorated man in Tyson Fury to lay sole claim to being boxing’s number one heavyweight.

Fury has shown that three years outside the ring were less problematic than first seemed. He was able to better Klitschko and was unfortunate not to have won against Wilder.

Therefore, Fury has shown his pedigree to mix it with the best in the division. He has fought the two out of three of the top fighters in the last 3 years, Klitschko and Wilder. This most definitely shows Fury can test any boxer in the division. He is extremely slick with his movement and is able to use his reach to good use with constant jabs.

Fury’s unorthodox style will certainly cause Joshua a stern test. Fury can also lay claim to having held the heavyweight crown after not being defeated in the ring.

Is Wilder a challenge to Joshua?

Wilder’s astonishing power makes him one of the most dangerous boxers in the world, with 39 knockouts in 41 bouts. Wilder’s technical ability is questionable, but his sheer power certainly cannot.

Joshua must face Wilder as he will want to prove to be the best heavyweight in the world and unify the division. In 2018, Wilder was able to compete with the best heavyweights by defeating Luis Ortiz and was close to handing Fury the first loss of his career in the 12th round.

Wilder can most certainly challenge Joshua as he is the most powerful boxer in the world today.
