Thomas Cecil takes a look at 13 players who have performed well so far during this season, perhaps above what was expected of them.
1. Virgil Van Dijk
The commanding Dutch centre-half is the main reason why Liverpool sit top of the table following the Christmas period. He is the driving force in their team who can play calmly out from the back. He wins every header that comes his way and has excellent leadership qualities
2. Aaron Wan Bissaka
The South London right back has been outstanding for the Eagles thus far – being solid in an attacking and defensive sense. He’s adjusted well to the Premier League from youth level. Indeed, he seems like a very good prospect.
3. Lucas Torreira
Bargain of the season. For only £26 million, the 5’5 Uruguan midfielder is the player Arsenal have been crying out for in recent years. He has also notched up with a few vital goals this season, notably against Spurs. The tough-tackling, intercepting master has been many people’s “signing of the season” so far.
4. Eden Hazard
Once again, the Belgian magician is having a great season. Terrorising defences time and time again, his goals have helped Chelsea in their run in for a spot in the top 4. The question is, will he stay at Chelsea at the end of the season or will he fancy a move to Real Madrid and become a galactico?
5. Shkodran Mustafi
Mustafi has answered many critics this season and has been a rock in the heart of Arsenal’s defence. When he’s not there, you see how much weaker Arsenal’s defence is and the World Cup winning German defender is gaining trust back from a lot of the Arsenal faithful
6. Callum Wilson
The Englishmen is performing well in a fairly average side this season. His pace, dribbling skills and hunger to succeed has warranted an England call up and Wilson keeps going from strength to strength
7. Mohammed Salah
The apparent “One season wonder” is performing superbly yet again, recently netting a hat trick away at Bournemouth and he sits 2nd alongside Harry Kane in the race for the “Golden Boot.”
8. Pierre Emerick Aubameyang
The league’s leading scorer, keepers have no chance when this man sets up for a finesse shot. Proving the media and pundits wrong week in and week out and is tipped to finish the season as the league’s top scorer.
9. Heung Min Son
The Korean international has silky skills and is a a naturally gifted two footed player. He’s outshone Kane this season and looks deadly in and around the 18 yard box every time he gets the ball.
10. Ben Chilwell
The Leicester left back has evolved into a very accomplished player. His crosses and passing has drastically improved and his non stop running ability and endless stamina has made him deliver more superb crosses for Vardy to score and this has helped the Foxes, massively.
12. Xherdan Shaqiri
“Shaq attack” every time this man receives the ball. The mean left foot he possesses means he can cut in and score whenever he wants. Mainly been used as a super sub by Klopp but changed the game against their most fierce of rivals, Man United, and looks a bargain from Stoke City
13. Felipe Anderson
The former Lazio man has shone and is receiving a lot of spotlight on him as a result of some brilliant performances. Scoring goals and assisting them isn’t a problem for the tricky left winger. His elusive pace and unselfish play is just the sort of thing West Ham fans would’ve wanted ever since Payet left.
14. Sead Kolasinac
In-and-out of the side last season, however, this year, he has played in a wing back position and his brutal strength as well as crossing ability has meant Aubameyang has pounced as finished all of the chances the Bosnian has created
