Arsenal loanee, Reiss Nelson, continues to turn heads in Germany and indeed back home. He once again put a matured and excellent display against Bayer Leverkusen on the weekend.
The Arsenal Starlet scored the first of a 1-4 crushing for Hoffenheim, and what a goal it was. It was the 19th minute and Hoffenheim had a corner. Grifo took the corner short for the visitors. He passed it to Reiss Nelson who was situated just outside the corner of the box. Taking one touch, Nelson wrapped his right boot around the ball. He curled it into the far top right corner out of the reach of the goalkeeper. The goalie, in all honesty, had no chance.
This is Nelson’s 5th goal for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga this season, from 6 appearances, 2 of those coming off the bench. At the age of 18, Nelson is looking like a massive talent and a huge source of excitement for Arsenal fans in the near future.
The emergence of Nelson and fellow Englishman Jadon Sancho in their Bundesliga outfits may provide a new route for young players coming out of the English Academies. The Bundesliga, provides a good level of football. It also contains smaller teams which are more willing to give younger players a chance. This is exemplified in the case of Reiss Nelson and Hoffenheim.
Whatever comes for Reiss Nelson this season, Arsenal fans will be delighted to see another big talent coming out of the academy. They may be hoping for another talent just like Jack Wilshere years earlier. The sky is the limit for young Nelson and I, for one, am excited to see what the future brings.
