Former welterweight world champion Victor Ortiz has handed himself into police amid an arrest warrant based on claims of sexual assault, according to Oxnard Police.
Ortiz, the former WBC king, has been accused with forcible rape, forcible oral copulation and forcible digital penetration. This is a charge which could carry serious jail time should the Kansas native be found guilty.
This is, however, not Ortiz’s first run in with the law in California. Back in July of 2015, he was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. This came after he was accused of assaulting an apparent fan at a music concert in Pasadena, CA.
Ortiz is most famed for holding the WBC welterweight title between 2011 and 2012. This came until he fought Floyd Mayweather – the infamous fight where after repeated holding and use of the head, Ortiz tried to apologise to ‘Money’ which a hug. Mayweather promptly knocked his opponent out.
Ortiz’s down-slide inside the ring has since made its presence outside the ring. He has gone 4-4-2 in his last ten fight. Previously he was 28-2-1. Being knocked out in all four losses.
Ortiz was scheduled to fight on Saturday on a card which included the like of Brandon Figueroa, James DeGale and Joe Joyce. He has since been pulled.
It remains unclear if he will be charged, but things certainly do not look good.
