West Ham have completed the signing of Spanish striker Lucas Perez from Arsenal, reportedly for a fee of £4m.
Perez will become new manager Manuel Pelligrini’s 8th signing of the Summer transfer window. This caps off a very successful summer for the Hammers, who have made a number of moves to strengthen their team.
This list includes Felipe Anderson (Lazio, £34.2m), Issa Diop (Toulouse, £22.5m), Andriy Yarmolenko (Dortmund, £18m), and Lukasz Fabianski (Swansea, £7.2m).
The 29-year-old Perez will join the East London team on a three-year deal. He spent a frustrating two seasons with London rivals Arsenal, having not broken fully into the first team. He signed for them back in August 2016, a £17m purchase from Deportivo La Coruna. However, the Spanish striker managed just 7 goals in 21 appearances for the Gunners.
He also spent last season on loan at Deportivo, scoring eight times in 35 La Liga appearances.
“I’m very excited, as West Ham are giving me the chance to stay in the Premier League,” Perez told the club’s official website.
“I’m very happy to be part of this new project. West Ham have great fans and play in an amazing stadium, so to sign here brings me great joy. I’m very motivated.”
Perez has also played for Rayo Vallecano and PAOK.
He also represents the second signing of the summer that West Ham have made from Arsenal. The first was Jack Wilshere, after the England midfielders contract expired at the end of June.
