Jose Mourinho is not confident he will be bringing any new faces to Old Trafford this deadline day.

Mourinho has said ‘it’s time to stop thinking about the market’ as he goes into what he hopes is a title winning season without the new central defender he hoped for.

Unless there is a change of circumstances, it looks as though United’s transfer business will be over and Mourinho wants to focus on the players he has.

“I’m not confident, the market closes today so it is time for me to stop thinking about the market. I will have to focus on the players I have.”

Man Utd have signed Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos (Fred) from Shakhtar Donetsk.

Mourinho doesn’t understand the perception that his side have gone backwards over the summer.

“My view is that, first of all, it is difficult for me to believe we finished second. When I listen and when I read, the media are capable of making people that finish second look like they were relegated.

”In football you need time to work and players on the pitch to work and we didn’t have that until now.

“Pre-season is difficult when you don’t have your players to work with, as simple as that.”

United face Leicester City at Old Trafford in their Premier League opener tomorrow night.
