Thibaut Courtois has officially signed for Real Madrid on a six-year-deal.

Courtois spent seven seasons at Chelsea, signing from Genk in 2011.

The Belgium number one was immediately sent out on loan to Atletico Madrid, where he played until 2014 before returning to Stamford Bridge to be The Blues’ number one.

Kepa will have big boots to fill at Chelsea

Courtois has expressed his delight in joining the Spanish giants, saying “Today I am realising a dream, this is the best club in the world.”

Chelsea, however, responded quickly by signing Athletic Bilbao keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga for a world record £71m as a replacement.

Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic has gone in the opposite direction, signing for Chelsea on a season-long loan deal.

What will Chelsea’s midfield look like now?

The former Inter player has spent three seasons at Real, winning three consecutive Champions League’s, but is aware of the challenge that lies ahead of him.

“I am really happy and excited to be here. It is an amazing feeling. I will try to do my best for this club.

“It is a new league for me, the beginning is always tough but I am sure the coach and my new team-mates will help me and I am looking forward to a great season.”
