Raheem Sterling has said that he doesn’t know why people criticise his lifestyle.
The Manchester City and England star who is currently at the World Cup in Russia, has been criticised for his extravagant way of living, but he can’t understand where this reputation has come from.
“There’s a perception of me in the media that I love bling and love to show off. I don’t understand where that comes from.”
The former Liverpool winger, who was brought up a short while away from Wembley stadium, believes that people should know the full story before writing negative things about him and his lifestyle.
“When I bought my mum a house, it was unbelievable what some people were writing.
“If people want to write about my mum’s bathroom in her house, all I have to tell you is that 15 years ago, we were cleaning toilets in Stonebridge and getting breakfast out of the vending machine. If anybody deserves to be happy, it’s my mum.”
Despite Sterling being reported in a negative way, he still believes that England is a place where people can come to fulfill their dreams.
”I’m telling you right now, England is still a place where a naughty boy who comes from nothing can live his dream.”
Sterling was in the starting 11 for England’s 2-1 victory over Tunisia in their World Cup opener. The next fixture for the Three Lions is against Panama on Sunday.
