Roy Hodgson thinks Ruben Loftus-Cheek ‘has more strings to his bow’ than the former Germany international.
The former England boss says that Loftus-Cheek, who spent last season on loan at Crystal Palace, is a similar player to Michael Ballack, but thinks the England midfielder is a trickier player.
”I’d say he goes by people more than Ballack did. But I think he’s got Ballack’s power and his pace and his strength – he’s definitely got that.”
Hodgson believes that Loftus-Cheek possesses the ability to beat players with his turn of pace and that could be the difference between him and the ex Bayern Munich man.
”He’s maybe got more strings to his bow than even Ballack had. That’s a bold thing to say, I know, but he’s so good at going past people. He’s got that deceptive turn of pace.”
Loftus-Cheek is expected to start England’s clash with Panama after Gareth Southgate’s team notes were leaked to the media. He will be replacing the injured Dele Alli and Roy Hodgson thinks he is up to the challenge.
“I do think he’s ready, yes, definitely, 100 per cent, I think he showed that in his cameo against Tunisia the other night.”
