The former Napoli head coach looks set to sign a two-year-deal at Stamford Bridge with the option of a third.
Sarri plans to live at the Chelsea training ground after he arrives in London this week.
The Italian faces the task of rebuilding the squad before pre season begins for the Blues who will play their first friendly on July 23 in Australia.
Chelsea are yet to buy or sell any players this transfer window and are keen to start their transfer business upon the arrival of Sarri.
Sarri has his eyes set on Juventus defender Daniele Rugani, who he knows well having spent two years with him during his time at Empoli. The 23-year-old could be Sarri’s first signing as manager of Chelsea in a £25 million deal.
The Italian is also keen to sign Uruguayan midfielder Matias Vecino from Inter Milan, but the San Siro outfit have said they want Davide Zappacosta as part of any deal.
A compensation deal is still to be reached with departing coach Antonio Conte and the case could end up being settled in court.
