A deal is set to be finalised for fight between Alexander Povetkin and Anthony Joshua

Alexander Povetkin’s promotional team are expecting a deal to be finalised for bout with Joshua.

The WBA ordered Joshua to sign a contract for a mandatory title defence against Povetkin within 24 hours and the Russian’s promotional team say a deal will be struck ‘very soon’.

The fight looks to be taking place in September after Deontay Wilder was unable to agree terms for a clash against the British powerhouse.

Povetkin’s promoter, Andrey Ryabinskiy,  has welcomed the news of a Povetkin v Joshua clash.

“I’m happy that everything is working out. It’s been a pleasure going through the negotiations with Eddie and I cannot wait for us to start the preparations for the fight.”

Manager at World of Boxing, Vladimir Kornilov, believes that Povetkin could be a more difficult fight for Joshua than Wilder would be.

“I think Povetkin and Joshua are two gold medallists, a very competitive, top of the line fight. I think this is the best fight in the heavyweight division today.

”To be honest with you, I think the fans are going to get a much more competitive and exciting fight in this one.

”Wilder-Joshua has been a lot of hype, this fight is the real deal.”

Kornilov has revealed that Povetkin is confident going into the fight with the heavyweight world champion.

”I believe that in this fight, it’s a 50-50 fight, it could go either way.

”The motivation and the desire for this fight shows Povetkin’s confidence.”
